What You’ll Find in This Issue…
We are proud to report that the response to our issues has been overwhelming. Over 72,000 unique visitors from all around the world have visited our site since April. We have seen visitors from as far away as China and Hong Kong and as diverse as Yugoslavia and South Africa. That means that there is a whole lot of yarn crafting going on at any hour of the day.
This issue’s focus is accessories and quick holiday gifts. Even though we are launching this issue live in the beginning of October, it’s not too early to think about the people on your holiday list. We have some fantastic items from some terrific designers that we know you’ll love to make. They will knit and/or crochet up in no time flat so that you will get more finished projects done sooner and finally be able to enjoy the upcoming holiday season.
Heidi has shared her Mini Mitten Pattern which makes for a great winter decoration, a terrific gift wrap embellishment or even as part of a holiday greeting card. Paula decided that giving a bottle of wine for a gift wasn’t complete without a felted wine bag cozy. She has combined knitting and crocheting to make this wonderful pattern.
Sedie (who wrote her pattern while on bed rest waiting for the birth of her first child), is our only 100% crochet pattern this issue. It’s an amazing hat that she used recycled yarn to make. Hop on over to her hat to make one for everyone on your holiday list, or at the very least, just to make one for yourself. We have several other patterns from other terrific designers including a beautiful pair of socks, the "little black dress" of knitted purses, and a hat that is perfect for just about anyone!
From there we suggest you check out our features section. We have a great article from a great lady. Jody learned to knit from her Aunt back in the 50s and 60s and she tells how she passed the craft on to her own grown daughter just a few years ago. Jody even found a picture of the first item she knit on the person who was lucky enough to receive it. Can you say that you’ve saved a picture of the first item you knit or crochet?
Speaking of pictures, you just have to head over to our new reader's gallery and check out the cutest picture of a finished knitted garment! Jessica Wellmeyer sent us a picture of Roland, her guinea pig, in the Whatever Shrug she knitted for him. Pam, the designer of the Whatever Shrug, has said she can now retire from her pattern designing career, because nothing can top that!
Don’t forget to check out our great yarn directory. We have added several groups and guilds and one might be in your area. If you don’t see the group or guild you belong to, feel free to send it to us and we’ll get the information in our directory at once! It’s free of charge and we are happy to promote your yarn loving group!
We have gotten several thank you letters from readers who have used the FREE classifieds section to either reduce or build their yarn stash. Don’t’ forget that it’s only in our classifieds where you can buy and sell all your yarn craft related stuff for FREE.
If you haven’t done so already, hop on over and sign up for our newsletter. By signing up you’ll always be the first to know about all the new features we’re adding or when we’ve launched a new issue.
Since this issue is all about accessories and quick holiday gifts, we are featuring a terrific advertiser on our Shop page. You can click on anyone of the ads to begin your non-yarn related holiday shopping. Maybe you have a sports lover in your life, or maybe you want to pick up a new designer handbag for your mother, sister, or friend (or maybe even for yourself) - whatever the case you can find it on our shop page. Click on any one of the ads to check out the amazing deals this retailer is offering… and if you do, make sure to tell them we sent you!
And that’s the fun for now! We are so glad you have joined us on this great adventure and we hope that you’ll stick with us as we grow and change into the fantastic magazine we know we’ll be! We are the only free online magazine offering both knitting and crocheting in one place, and we’re working hard to make you proud!
Until Next Time,
Alison
