I am probably what one would consider a novice knitter.  I have only been knitting for about 2 years.  I am self-taught and am learning as I go.  With this said, I started buying nice wool yarn from whatever local yarn stores I could find.  I was only able to buy solid colors and they weren't very exciting.  I tried once to dye sock yarn with Kool-Aid.  It was a disaster. I really was in over my head.

Not too long after I learned to knit, I stopped.  It was too much and I was too scared to do anything too difficult, meaning other than flat knitting. I kept seeing all of these beautiful hand knit items made with the most magnificent yarns and starting looking into learning more.

PlumPixiespacerI figured if I was going to start 'really' knitting, things like diaper soakers and such, I needed to get some good quality yarn.  This is when my life changed.

Wool yarn in my mind always seemed like it would be gross: scratchy and hairy and hard to work with.  I noticed that all of the good knitters I knew were “stalking” the Selah cart on Hyena Cart (to wait for items to be stocked) and decided that I was going to get some of her yarn.  It was so popular and hard to get I knew I wanted some if for no other reason than to just to say I have it.  I cannot remember what my first purchase was, the type and color way that it.  All I remember is receiving this beautiful soft, vibrant colored yarn.  It was all I could do not to take it into bed with me to keep petting it.  It was so gorgeous.

From that day on I have purchased many, many items from Selah. Emperor BFL, Divine Merino, Canadian BFL, Honey Organic Merino, and a silk wool blend I cannot wait to get.

I have purchased many different color ways that include Heartwood, Gentle, Fenton, Finn, Morpho, Magnolia, Louise, Eggshell, Helena, Plum Pixie, and Chocolate Rainbow. Each color way is so beautiful and each one so different.

Julie (one of the owners of Selah) is so wonderful to work with (Lisa Sanchez is her business partner).  I have had yarn sent to her to dye and the customer service was excellent.  But nothing beats the finished product when it arrives at your doorstep.

All of the yarn I have knit up has great pooling and distribution of color. There have not been any that have striped or pooled in a way that I wanted to frog my project.  I have seen some knitted objects where the pooling has been large in spots and that just has not been the case.  It has been a joy to knit with.  Soft, lovely, and pretty.

I can honestly say that Selah yarn is my favorite yarn.  I love how some of the color ways come about and how real life is their inspiration.  I love how their love of yarn comes across on every single skein.  I love how the yarn looks, how it feels, and I how I feel when I know I have ordered a high quality yarn with a wonderful dye job.

My heart breaks a little each time when I miss a stocking, and thereby miss my chance to get more yarn.  I noticeably gasp out loud when I see something I need to have because it is so stunning. It pains me when family obligations take me away from “stalking time”, but I ease the hurt by going into my work area and looking at and feeling all the yarn I have collected from Selah.  This means that my venture into yarn buying has become an adventure into yarn collecting.  I don't want to knit up some of the yarn, as it is too nice to make into something that I knit.  I did have a beautiful sweater made for my daughter from the yarn because I didn't want to ruin the yarn by knitting it myself.

I highly recommend all of Selah’s yarns. For all of you who have never tried the yarn but want to, you will be so happy you did. But only if you can beat me to the purchase!
