knit and plentyProduct Reviewed: Gettin’ Knit Together - "The Essential Organizational Kit for the Disorganized Yarn Lover"

Company: Knit & Plenty

Price: $25

Website: http://www.knitandplenty.com

I used to think of myself as an organized person, especially when it came to my yarn addiction. I kept a spreadsheet containing notes of my stash of needles, magazines, and yarn related books. My knitting bag contained a small pouch of knitting accessories that went everywhere my knitting did. I even started a scrapbook to record all of the projects that I complete. But all of this was just a little too much for even me to keep up with. Life started moving fast and all of my planning and organization went out the window.

That is until I found the kits made by Knit & Plenty. Gettin’ Knit Together is touted as the essential tool kit for the disorganized yarn lover and upon hearing this; I was willing to give it a try!

Ms. Purl Needlemeyer (also known as Jodi Wallace) has it all figured out. As the creator of Gettin’ Knit Together she put together a unique offering with each piece of the kit there to solve a yarn lover’s problems. The kit comes in an adorable see through pouch (where you get to choose your favorite color) that contains at least one (sometimes more) of eight different items designed to get your organized. Here are our favorites:

yarn minderpattern minderThe Yarn Minder - This is designed so you'll never lose another yarn label. All you do is insert the yarn label into the Yarn Minder clear pocket and use the soft elastic to keep it secure. There is room to record when and where the yarn was purchased, and even how many yards remain when your yarn gets put back into your stash.

Pattern Minder - How many times have you scribbled notes along the margins of your patterns? Well not any more! This is a great place to record all the details of a project and jot down notes as you go along.

needle minderNeedle Minder - Ever find yourself ready to buy a new set of needles but you can’t figure out if you own them already? Well this is the perfect pocket needle inventory to keep track of all your hooks and needles. It comes in a durable plastic cover that conveniently fits inside your wallet or checkbook holder. There are even quick reminders for everything we tend to forget, including the meaning of K2TOG, PSSO, C3B and how to make a buttonhole.

Also included are Project Minders, a Measure Minder, a Site Minder, a few Sew on Cloth Labels, and a handy dandy Retractable Tape Measure.

Priced at $25, we here at For the Love of Yarn feel that it’s a steal! Not only do we all have one here at the office, but we’ve even begun to stash a few extra away for holiday gifts (you know for the yarn lover who has everything!!)

Heal My HandsProduct Reviewed: Heal My Hands Moisturizing Balm

Company: Heal My Hands

Price: varies (with free shipping throughout the summer)

The first time we heard of Heal My Hands is when Claudia Dunitz wrote an article for our last issue. It seems that she, like many of us, was a yarn lover with dry skin. She was tired of products that were filled with chemicals and just wanted something simple yet strong enough to fight dry skin and compact enough that she could take it with her wherever she went.

We here at For the Love of Yarn just had to get our hands on this product. Several of us are sock and lace knitters, and all of us knit and crochet with wool. There is constant complaining when our yarn catches on our dry skin. It hurts and it’s down right annoying (not to mention a bit embarrassing).

We are now in love with Heal My Hands. Claudia’s entire product line (from Heal My Heels to Heel My Nose) contains no water and are highly concentrated cakes of moisturizing and botanical ingredients. They include all natural ingredients like almond butter, arnica, cocoa butter, hops essential oil, jojoba, lanolin, lavender and peppermint essential oils, vitamin E, and more.

It took no time at all for our dry skin to become softer. Everyone here is now proud to say they can work with any fiber without fear of the yarn catching on our skin. Heal My Hands has a special place in our knitting bags and in our hearts.
